OK let's break this down a little shall we. that's all under the covers and is completely transparent to the end user (if it's done right). There is a huge amount of work required to simply maintain code - for new operating systems, new hardware, etc.

And in my case, it's enterprise software costing many thousands of dollars - but the same is true for people who spend $30. You wouldn't believe how many customers expect eternal free updates for software they purchased 25 years ago. That being the case, I am also in the software development field (30+ years). I'm here to learn shit, not make friends. I've learned that he's an asshole, but also has more in-depth Quicken knowledge than most anyone else here - and I respect that. u/gmalis1 is frequently a condescending dick, but he's also more critical of Quicken than any other user in this sub and is as far from being a shill for the company than anyone could get. Hopefully we'll get payback in federal court.

There was a workaround by editing the QIF file, but once that workaround became common knowledge, they released a new patch that was specifically designed to disable it. What they did, is no different then a script kiddie loading a Trojan into Quicken. I've got an attorney looking at this now the possibility of a class action lawsuit.

They're just looking to score money, so they put a bug in the last patch to disable manual importation. Intuit no longer owns Quicken, for some strange reason, they chose to sell it to a bunch of financial pirates that don't give two farts in a hurricane about customer service. I tested this, on an old laptop still running windows XP, after downloading from my main system, and copying the QFX file to a flash drive, it imported all my transactions.

The issue with that, if you install it, under Windows 10, you will get "This app is not compatible with Windows 10." If it doesn't work on 20.2 it could be that Quicken blocked the 4 lines from working anymore, but I don't know that for a fact, but you're good test case.Īctually 2010, will still allow you to manually import data that you download. The magic all happens when you add the 4 lines to the top of your qif file. So if you have trouble with an import not doing what is expected, look at the underlying data before you give up.ġ9.8 didn't have those account types for direct import. I don't really want to say where I bank, but there is one bank that's credit card qif is missing the " ^ " between records. Then I run a batch file that concatenates the header to the downloaded file.īy doing it this way, you should have no trouble importing into all the account types because the "!Account" causes Quicken to rely on the 4 lines to tell it where to put the import rather than anything you select from the account dropdown box in the dialog. I have this information for my various accounts in what I call a header.txt file. Nname of the account exactly as in Quicken However, I try to be very careful with my dates in downloading my qif file so it's a rare transaction that "matches" for me.

As far as I can tell, it does attempt to do matching. Nname of account exactly as it is in QuickenĪfter adding these 4 lines to the top of your qif file, and importing to Quicken, the new transactions should drop into the lower pane for you to review. The 4 lines for a checking/savings account look like this:
